“When I first came to South Charlotte CrossFit, I was terrified that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the people who went there. But everyone there is extremely friendly, and will always help. I’m not just talking about the coaches, even the people who attend and have been doing it for a while will reach out and help you. SCCF really is a community and you will become immersed in it. SCCF has changed me for the better. My diet has changed, my endurance and strength has grown as a continue to go to classes. I think for success with CrossFit, you have to go as many times as possible. When I started I could barely do a ring dip without a band, and now I am doing them with ease, even weighted at times. The coaches here will provide you will the tools for success. So if you are looking for a great group of like minded people, this is the place for you. They are my support group and I will be forever thankful for finding this place.”
“I’ve considered myself a healthy person and have worked out at gyms/running consistently for a long time. I didn’t realize I was capable of so much more until I started doing CrossFit. The only thing I knew about these workouts was from friends of mine who had tried it out and had scared me to death. I bit the bullet, bought a Groupon and walked into South Charlotte CrossFit for my first class nervous out of my mind. I was told if I could survive the WOD that day (which was allegedy the hardest WOD for that month), I could do anything!!!! (thanks Jeremy:-)) Well, he was right – and I am so glad I stuck it out and came back. I have been able to push my body to limits I never thought imaginable, and I’ve only been doing it for a year and a half. It has taken me 31 years to get a dead hang pull-up and there is no stopping me now!
The friends I have made at SCCF are a huge added bonus – supportive, hilarious, caring and the most fun people to hang out with (in and out of the gym!). Working out with them and getting pushed to excel by our incredible coaches is the highlight of my day. I never could have imagined the amazing impact this box has had on my life – I’m excited to see what else is to come!”
“Throughout young adulthood I focused my time and energy on academics and not health. Health was an afterthought as long as I could get through school. I could become healthy afterwards… Well school ended, I got a job, and I was unhealthy, out-of-shape, and headed down a bad path.
SCCF has completely changed my life from a physical standpoint, but also mentally. I was in a bad place mentally when I first started SCCF. This definitely showed in my attitude and workouts. After starting at SCCF, I’m a much more positive person, easier to approach, easier to bullshit with, and am more of myself again. Since joining SCCF, I’ve gotten stronger, quicker, slimmer, and have a ton more self-confidence. Abby and Jeremy would be the first ones to say that I used to get super frustrated during WODs (and probably still do to a certain extent), and that it would mess everything up for me. I probably wasn’t too pleasant to be around; but, Abby and Jeremy kept at it, kept pushing me to get out of my comfort level, and to smile (thanks, Abby).
After being at SCCF for about 8 or 9 months, I’m slimmer, stronger, and more fit than I was at any point in my life. I couldn’t do a pull-up if my life depended on it. Now, I’m too damn close to stop. I’m able to do things I never thought I’d be able to do such as squatting below parallel, a pull-up, ring-dips, and so on.The other thing I love about SCCF, other than the coaches, is the members. SCCF really is like a family. Every member was accepting of me, encourages me, and gives me tips/advice when needed. I’m not an elite athlete by any means, so the fact that members who are already in ridiculously good shape take the time to teach me techniques, form, or anything else means a lot.”
“Initially, coming from a history of aerobics classes/spinning/globo gym type workouts, I was a little intimidated by the idea of CrossFit. Add that I’m in my mid-thirties, and I have to admit that I wondered if I was crazy to even consider it! But after (much) encouragement from a friend who works out at South Charlotte CrossFit, I decided to give it a try. I walked though those doors that very first day and have never looked back. Yes, the workouts are the most intense I’ve ever done, but they all can be scaled to any level. The coaches are knowledgeable, friendly and the most supportive team out there.
They are also always bringing in experts in nutrition, supplements, yoga, Olympic lifting, etc. to give us opportunities to continue to learn more and keep improving. And the people! It’s so inspiring to me personally to see the mutual respect and encouragement shared between athletes of all ages and fitness levels. It’s definitely one of the most supportive environments I’ve ever been in. A year later, I’m hooked and the hour or so a day I spend at SCCF is often the best part of my day!”
“I joined SCCF about 4 months ago. I had been contemplating CrossFit for about a year but was unsure and a little apprehensive about the Olympic lifting portion. I finally sucked it up and gave it a try. I initially chose SCCF because of its location and class schedule, but told myself if I was uncomfortable, I’d simply try another box – I mean, let’s face it, there are a lot of them out there. From the first moments of the first Fundamentals class, all my apprehension faded. Form is stressed over weight and the trainers are always willing to help. There is no pressure – only encouragement. There are no stupid questions – I ask them all the time! Each week I am amazed at what my body will do and those small gains keep adding up and keep me motivated wanting more! 4 months ago I could barely do 2 unassisted pull-ups. This week, I did over 50 of them in one WOD. The SCCF members are very welcoming and supportive as well. It’s a friendly atmosphere with people of all abilities. I only wish it hadn’t taken me a year to get here.”
